EGDS - Health
EGDS-Health extends the work of the previous EGDS projects by exploring child physical growth and health. We focus on the eating habits and behaviors of 561 sets of children, adoptive parents, and of birth parents, examining family dietary habits, food preferences, physical activities, and child growth patterns from birth to middle childhood. We are particularly interested in identifying the environmental and genetic factors that promote physical growth and healthy weight over time.
EGDS-Health is funded by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. Each birth parent is asked to complete a series of questionnaires during a phone interview. Each adoptive parent is interviewed at child age 7–9 years, completes a series of online questionnaires, and participates in three short phone interviews focused on child diet and activities over the prior 24-hour period.
